Travelers is implementing important product changes for homeowners policies in the state of Oklahoma.  The homeowners market in Oklahoma has become more challenging in recent years.  Travelers is making roof coverage changes on Renewals effective June 8th.

  • As customers roofs reach eight years of age, Travelers will require ACV Coverage for both new and renewal business.
  • As customers roofs reach sixteen years of age, Travelers will require ACV coverage AND a 2% Wind/Hail Roof Deductible.
Travelers will process needed changes automatically upon the renewal policies.  A separate letter is being sent to the customer prior to renewal issuance.  A copy of the letter will also be forwarded to your agency.  Please refer to the attached Sample Letter.  Age of roof is information collected by you at new business and then updated each year as the information is provided to SLS.

If customers have replaced their roof since the policy was issued, simply fax to SLS with the proof of replacement, such as a roofing contract or invoice.  This documentation must be faxed to 918-336-2178, Attn: Joann Stewart.  We will have Travelers update the age of roof and restore the policy to replacement cost roof protection and the original deductible, as appropriate.  Since ACV Roof and the 2% Wind/Hail deductible provide premium credits, this will result in an increase in premium.

   Electric Vehicles Available Through Safeco

Safeco has a market for many electrics, including low-speed electric and neighborhood electric vehicles.  How the vehicle is primarily used will determine how it is insured with Safeco.  Underwriting is prepared to help you evaluate the vehicle and how best to insured it.

Below are some guidelines on how to write various types of electric vehicles.

  • Electric Cars, those capable of achieving speeds of 35mph or greater, should always be insured on the Auto policy.  They are designed for use on public roadways and should be insured accordingly.
  • Low-Speed vehicles, those capable of speeds up to 25mph, can be insured in two ways - through Safeco's Motorcycle program and through the Auto program.  How the vehicle is primarily used will determine how you insure it with Safeco.
  • Safeco's Motorcycle Program has a market for golf carts and for low-speed vehicles that are used primarily for golfing purposes.  These vehicles may also be used for driving within a local community (to the golf course or the clubhouse, for example) but should not be taken on public roads outside the neighborhood.
  • Safeco's Private Passenger Auto Program is the appropriate market for vehicles used on public roadways, whether it's commuting to work or for a quick trip to the store.  We would ask that you think about the likelihood of a claim occurring.
If you have questions about electric cars, please contact your SLS Personal Lines Underwriter (shelli.rainey@sls-ins.com, amanda.vaughn@sls-ins.com or donna.gaines@sls-ins.com) who can assist you with determining vehicle eligibility and proper rating.  Remember that Hartford and Travelers will also write select Electric Vehicles.

For those electric vehicles that do not qualify with SLS markets, you may request a quote through Graham-Rogers Personal Lines Department.

SLS Homeowner Changes in  Kansas & Missouri

Effective  5/01/2010, Standard Lines Services will no longer be offering Travelers and Hartford monoline home quotes.  All monoline home quote submissions received by SLS will be quoted based on eligibility with Travelers and Hartford and will include the Auto/Home Discount.  We will not be able to bind the risk without the supporting Auto Policy.  This will also apply to Renter Policies (HO-4), Condo Policies (HO-6) , Dwelling Fire,  and Secondary Homes.

Please note that we must receive the Auto Application at the time of binding the homeowners.  The policy effective dates do not have to be the same, however, the Auto Application must be effective within 60 days of the homeowners application and must be submitted at the time  the homeowners is bound.

Monoline Auto Quotes are still available with Hartford and Travelers.
