Farm & Ranch Underwriting Guidleines
ELIGIBLE
The Farm & Ranch program is intended for risks actively involved in: |
- Owner occupied farms/ranches, with a primary residence.
- Absentee owned, under management, working farms/ranches.
- Growing and marketing field crops, fruits, nuts, vegetables or wholesale nursery stock growers.
- Raising or keeping of livestock and animals.
- Milking Dairy's only, no processing or creamery operations.
- Packing, sorting, grading, boxing operations. (apples, onions, potatoes, etc.)
- Will consider "gentleman farms" that are operating, or have a caretaker, and are not unprotected homeowners risks in the country. Quality property meeting our guidelines is necessary as well.
- Preference is for the total account, monoline property may qualify.
- Horse operations with boarding, training, breeding, pleasure, may be eligible under the new equine program.

- Principally engaged in commercial operations other than farming or ranching.
- Dude ranches and all resorts, including religious retreats, weight loss resorts and camps.
- Fishing or hunting guides, perserves, outfitting services with or without ownership or lease of land.
- Public riding academies, riding arenas, riding trails, pony rides, arena's for rent.
- Commercial feedlots, stockyards, or sale barns.
- Vacant farms or ranches.
- Retail nursery operations.
- Commercial grain elevators, feed dealers, hay dealers, fertilizer/seed/herbicide dealers.
- Poultry hatcheries, eggs for incubating, commercial poultry operations, poultry floaters
- Custom farming, unless incidental, no application of sprays.
- Farm labor contractors, Farm Management entities.
- "Hobby Farms", with no farm exposure.
- Principal dwelling is older than 1980 and is of mobile/modular construction.
- Grazing associations
- Exotic/specialty animals/crops (ie. Emu, ostrich, buffalo, llama, fish, turf, flowers, worms, pheasants, etc.) are referral only.
- Horses rented for riding, pony rides, petting zoo, and operations for jumping and fox chasing.
- Insurance on growing crops.
- Non-profits. (Vacant land, non-profits actively farming) Discussion warranted.
- Bankruptcies, any chapter filing, new business only.
